Lapis lazuli [(Na,Ca)8(Al,Si)12O24(S,SO)4],also known as Lazurite, is typically a dark blue mineral that is relatively rare in North
America but has been found in the relative vicinity of the Rocky Mountains. The specimens that we have here come from Afghanistan
(the dark blue) and Chile (the lighter blue). Lapis Lazuli a birthstone for December.
